Friday, May 26th was a great day to read, sing, dance, dream big and discuss great money habits with preschoolers at the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA.
Thanks to the generous support of the Berlinkski Foundation and LemonadeDay.org Team Sammy was able to bring the first ever Dream Big Reads to two classes of about twenty 4 and 5 year olds. They could not have been better behaved and more ready to learn. Big kudos to educators Maria L. Roman, Cruz Meneses and Adriana Lopez.
The young scholars participated in an interactive reading of the story Sammy’s Big Dream. They then discussed how working hard, setting goals and getting in the habit of saving money can help them make their own big dreams come true, like graduating from college.
The future leaders demonstrated excellent enthusiasm for dreaming big as they called out career dreams ranging from doctors to teachers to police officers. They also were not shy about sharing their education and college ambitions. It was clearly evident they were being taught to be life long learners and achievers. It was also inspiring to discover many already owned piggy banks and said they were saving.
Follow up activities for the students and new Dream Big Reads are scheduled throughout the summer and fall both at the Y and local schools in East Los Angeles.
